Managing Modern Desktops Subject.

In this subject we are going to be talking about how to install and configure Microsoft Windows 10 in an enterprise environment.  An enterprise can have tens, hundreds or ever thousands of computers and devices that use Windows 10.  It would be extremely inefficient to individually setup each device in the same way that you might setup your own computer at home. In this course you will be learning how to use a range of Windows 10 features that provide the efficiency and control that is needed in an enterprise environment.

Australian College of Information Technology (ACIT) is a Microsoft Imagine Academy. This means that you will be using Microsoft Official Curriculum and Microsoft e-Learning courses throughout this subject. You will also be given access to a virtual lab environment hosted on the ACIT servers. We hope you enjoy it.

The subject content and assessment activities are organised into a nominal (suggested) duration of 6 weeks.  You may however progress through the subject as quickly or as slowly as you wish.  The exception to this is if you are also attending the on campus lecture and lab classes. In this case you will follow the in class schedule.  You should progress through the labs and the assessments in the order in which they presented in this course.  In some cases you will not be able to complete a lab or assessment unless you have done the previous lab or assessment.

Course Objectives

After completing this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe the important new features of Windows 10.
  • Install Windows 10.
  • Configure a device that is running Windows 10.
  • Configure network connectivity for a Windows 10 device.
  • Manage storage in Windows 10.
  • Manage folders and printers.
  • Manage apps.
  • Manage data security.
  • Manage device security.
  • Implement Windows 10 features to improve network security.
  • Restore files, roll back drivers, and recover Windows 10 devices.
  • Monitor and update Windows 10 devices.

  • Lab Environment

Your course instructor will provision a lab environment for you.  A lab environment consists of a set of virtual machines which we call a 'Pod'.  Each student is allocated to a Pod. The standard setup is that the lab environment is hosted on ACIT servers or cloud.  You can request that the lab environment be setup on your own laptop or PC.  You can ask your instructor to help you with this. Note you will need at least 8GB of RAM.

The lab environment virtual machines are as follows:

    Virtual Machine Name:Use as:
20687D-LON-DC1Domain controller in the Adatum.com domain
    20687D-LON-CL1
